Exploring

Less skiing than last week, but that's ok!

My plan on wednesday was to ski down from Prestreljnik mountain, because I need to ski routes for my 40routes project, but there was some misunderstanding so I didn't went.

Yesterday I was in Austria... with some special guys! At first I wanted to go to Jezersko with Smrekar (Martin), because Meso had keys of mountain hut and he slept there... but then all of a sudden Bine Žalohar wrote on his facebook that he wants somebody to go skiing with. So I thought myself, well, let's try it!

The first moment we met on a parkplace was like we know each other already for a long time and that's how all day was like. We were relaxed as much as it gets and we laughed a lot.

We decided going to Obertauern, where we would use a lift up and then go ski-touring.
We even found some old powder and skied some nice lines. Bine said that we could straight line some chute there... and we did. Although he just went straight into it and I stopped a bit before i dropped it, because I don't have much experience with straight-lining faces haha.

Martin has finally tested his new powder skis and he seems happy with them a lot.
Bine had also been on his totally new Elan Ripsticks for the first time... and those skis are just awesome - when I saw them on a parkplace I was like - oh shit, this is so sick. They are lighter than mine, even though Ripsticks are wider and longer than my Spectrums!!! I wish I could ski them next season...

I had so much fun, I have learned a few new things and finally met a guy who is actually my idol since I started skiing. What a joy!

Oh.. those who don't know who Bine is... you should check the Google!

Lets start this

So this week I have finally started my ski-mountaineering season... better late than never?

On Wednesday Aleš, Jernej and I went on a relaxing ski touring on Sella Nevea and Kanin... without any pressure and we had some really good time. The snow was really bad, but it didn't bother us at all. Those two guys were smart enough to go to the top of Prestreljnik window by feet... I wasn't and realised that too late... I wanted to stay on my skis until the top, but I gave up (better option) and went directly to some kind a mountain pass next to the window.

I was alone there, though Aleš and Jernej had a company of a few guys - one of them was also Klemen Jakopin - MESO, with whom I skied one day last winter. We met up in the bottom and ended the day together. Meso and his friend had also skied one narrow line from the ridge on Sella Nevea, but we already went in home-direction.

On Thursday I also had been on skis/skins, but this time with my coach Mitja and my teammate Gregor. We had done a 4 hours long trainings... and when those two are together, you better hurry up! They are training hard and skinning up even faster... They decided to compete on 4 Islands stage race as a duo... I also took a few shots of them for their promotion video. They did 4 hours and 2000 vertical meters and I did 4 hours and 1600 vertical meters... Sorry guys, I just couldn't keep it up with you :)

Today Meso and I went to climb Zupančičeva grapa and ski from Velika Mojstrovka... I saw a picture of the possible skiable line from the top so I said to Klemen if he would like to join... he wasn't sure until he saw the picture ;)

We wasn't sprinting up the hill at all, but we realised that we are faster than others and we haven't even been tired... We also saw an alpinism legend Mr. Štremfelj who guided a client in Butinarjeva grapa. We decided then to slow down a bit as we were early enough to have a lot of time until the most people come to vršič pass and attack mountains above it.

In an hour we were at the top and went directly to Velika Mojstrovka.. we took some photos and ate Energy cake and then went down.. The line from the top is marked as III- and it was sweet but short.. From saddle till the bottom of the mountain was nothing special, because snow was hard and icy... with lower altitude also more rocks appeared.

I usually don't like crowded places, especially if crowds appear in mountains... but this year we cannot do much about it, so I won't complain. It was a nice day, I really like to be with Meso and we were even at home before lunch!

I always realize too late that I keep forgetting shooting a footage of climbing up, because videos should be more interesting. I will keep that in mind for next week!

To sum up

It's been a long time since my last blog post and many things happened until now.

Let's begin with weeks after matura exams... I got myself to some serious training for 15/16 ski- and cycling/mtb season, which led me to some important decisions after, but firstly let's go to tests for Faculty of Sports in Ljubljana (University), which were happening in the beginning of July.

I didn't know what to expect, but i knew that my running and swimming are far from good and that would be my worst disciplines, so I had to gave it all on other tests. Overall I did quite a good job, if we don't take cooper and swimming tests I was one of the best there... but that doesn't matter because I didn't even make normas on those two. On cooper test I failed for 10 seconds and when swimming I failed for 4 seconds and I was one the worst swimmers there. But we have to look on the bright side too - I was in top 5% in other disciplines.

So summer went on and I was training a lot - from 12 to 16 hours per week and progressed a lot, I also lost around 4 kilos which is quite a lot. Those who climb, run, hike, cycle a lot will know how big the difference is when going uphill. :) After tests on Faculty I started to do some trail running also, the longest run was even 30km long.

After some time I also got results of matura exam, which were really good! Even my slovene teacher was really proud of my results. :) Unfortunately I missed my place on Faculty for TWO points, due to my swimming and/or running. So I decided not to go on University this year, because I don't want to spend time on things which I'm not interested in. And I'm having the time of my life!

In autumn I was working at the warehouse of slovenian biggest online store - Mimovrste so now I have some extra money... unfortunately it won't be enough for the whole year, but I will make it through.

I also started to post regularly on my INSTAGRAM page (free to follow/please follow) where I try to post on daily basis, mostly photos from trainings - nature, landscapes and mountains.

''My year'' as I call my study break it's going really well. I started working with my coach Mitja from energijateam.com and he really brought discipline to my daily routine. Now I train from 10 to 20 hours per week, but much smarter and he knows how to do it. Plan is to race the whole 2016 season as good as possible with some main goals (races) to do some results.

I also thought that this year will be my really hardcore skimountaineering year, but then Mother Nature decided not to let winter reach our part of the Alps and now I'm more or less on the road or forest and gym. Some days ago winter finally came to our peaks, but under 2000m of height not much snow had fallen. No snow is being forecasted until the end of January, but I hope winter will struck our land in February so hard that we won't be able to come from our houses. (year right)

Some days ago I also appeared on the official page of international freeski team at Elan skis (thanks for supporting me) and I've made a self portrait for both - Elan and Kult Eyewear (thanks for supporting me), which will appear on a new web page soon. :)

So this week is finally a winter one for me, with a few skimountaineering days. That's what I've been waiting for a looong time!!!

Thanks for reading and supporting me you all, from now on I will post more on, but you can follow me on Instagram to see what I'm doing on daily basis.
